Yesterday we went on a learning journey to the MACC to see an art exhibit. This was no ordinary , installation created by the extremely extraordinary artist, Wes Bruce. Instead of a painting, or even a sculpture, he made a fort! When you are young, a fort is a personal house within your house. So to see a grown man build a few hundred square foot fort, with multiple rooms, levels, and crawl spaces, was a childhood dream come true! Though it down within the next week, I wish that I could live inside of it. It was a great experience overall, and I hope to see something like this again.
This Saturday Erin Tsue, Isabella Lallo, Ms. Enriquez, Mrs. Hendricks, my father and I will be flying to Oahu to go to an event at Punahou Schools. It will consist of many workshops that we have a choice to attend. I'm disconcerted that I have to wake up early in order to catch a flight, but am happy that I get the chance to go to Oahu again because I rarely get to go there. I've never been to Punahou, I wonder what it is like. It will be interesting to see the high school that our current president went to. Please write in the "comments section" what do you like to do on Oahu?
I am sad to say that we are nearing the end of our 8th grade sailing program. I have enjoyed learning the basics and then using what I learn to race against my pears. I hope to be able to go back and sail this summer. Aside from the sailing, I will miss the lunches. My favorite lunch was probably the cheeseburger. The funniest part of last week was that Mr. Mason, our science teacher, capsized with no wind in a hard-to-flip boat called a Sabot. Then my fellow classmate, James Caputo, said, "Bernoulli's Principle!" since we had learned about that recently, and that is that force that drives a sailboat. It was a fun trip to the yacht club. I can't wait until next week!
Here is a quick video of my presentation at the Schools of the Future Conference 2013 We have had 3 weeks of sailing now, and I continue to enjoy it. I started off in a sabot, but because there was so little wind, we just played on the docks after lunch. I hope that next week we have strong wind, and we will be able to race the Bic's. Racing is my favorite part of sailing. I love when we get going fast enough, that the boats are at nearly a 40 degree angle off of the water.
On Friday, October 4th, we went to Seabury to give a presentation on how the Hokuleʻa has helped us revolutionize education. I was really nervous. Although we gave a very similar presentation at the Ritz Carlton in Kapalua, I felt under more pressure presenting in front of teachers. Next time I need to speak from the heart instead of a piece of a piece of paper. After this practice, Schools of the future should go smoother.
Last Friday and Saturday (the 27th and 28th) my class went to David's dad's farm on a learning journey. My favorite activity was learning about the Coffee plants. We were even lucky enough to each plant our own coffee. In 5 years, my plant will be mature enough to produce coffee. So by the time I go to college, I can have my own coffee. The whole experience was amazingly fun, and I hope to come back again.

AuthorI'm J.P. I like to go outside, but I also like to play video games. I love music, it keeps me happy, gets me excited, and calms me down, all at once. Archives
