This Friday Krizhna, Erin, Chanel and I went to Haleakala Crater with the 7th grade class and went to see the forest and learn about native and Endemic species. We had a lot of fun and leaned much about the native birds and how they are becoming harder to find. Did you know that the red bird i'iwi, might go extinct within the next ten years. I also learned that Haleakala is not actually a crater, but two valleys that collapsed forming a U shaped half sphere. We got to see a quail that was running around in the parking lot and we did our may day royal court dance. This Indian guy was watching us with his wife and thought we were very good. Then we went to see the telescopes at the science center and learned a lot about expansion and the stars.
We learned that some people pick the silver-swards and now they are becoming rare. I had so much fun and many good memories were made. when we were at the edge of the crater, while Mrs. Jenkins was not looking, I stood on the edge of the rock wall and held the fatal drop sign. Oh yah and when we were driving up to the top Krizhna got sick but did not throw up. On the way back we were listening to music in the car and I was singing a song and my voice cracked really bad. By this time it was 5:30 and time to go home. I had a lot of fun on this field trip and I realized that I will miss everyone after we graduate.
