Yesterday our 8th grade class went up to O'o farm and we had so much fun. First we messed around all day on Friday playing tag, making pizza and splitting firewood. We made the best pizzas ever with our brick pizza oven that reaches 950 degrees! we used sausage, chicken, mozzarella and rosemary. after dinner we had to go to bed in the yurt (Mongolian tent). The next morning we woke up for sunrise and made a fire to warm up. When we were all warmed up we made breakfast. After breakfast we planted our 8th grade coffee tree row and learned about coffee germination. Then our class toured the crops on the farm and observed the bugs that affect them. I learned that the parasitic wasp and lady beetle help a lot by eating the eggs of harmful pests like moths and white butterflies. I also learned that the lady beetles and parasitic wasps like the cilantro flowers the best because that is where most of these pests are. By 11 o'clock am we were all tired and ready to go home so our chaperons picked us up and we went home to sleep.
Yesterday was even more fun then I anticipated. Carter and I were the last two to go in and we were sailing so fast! We learned to sail in different wind because the wind was coming from the east. The waves were really big and everyone was flipping. At the end of the day the wind picked up a lot and we were flying. This was fun because it was a new experience for me sailing in this weather and I think this has made u us better sailers.
I am so excited to go sailing tomorrow! Last week was so much fun sailing with my class. We learned a lot about the wind and Bernoulli's principle, which id=s what we are learning about in science. That's is pretty much what reformed learning is. I am can't wait to get back on the water again tomorrow.
Yesterday our 8th grade class went to Lahaina Sound recording studio to record "Where in the World are the Whales," a song written by Steve Grimes. The recording studio was so cool because it was actually a professional recording studio. We had so much fun singing and using the recording equipment like the microphones and headsets because it made us feel like we were famous.
Yesterday we were very sad to hear that our friend and teacher Kupuna Kina is in the hospital. We are all praying for her to get better soon.
