This weekend, the class went to the farm. I had a surf contest in Hana, so I couldn't attend. Because i can't blog about the farm, I will blog about my competition. It was the third event for Hawaii Surfing Association (H.S.A.), at Koki Beach in Hana. We drove there early Friday morning to practice. It was the first time I'd ever surfed there, and it was a really hard spot. There were rocks and boils popping up everywhere, my brother even broke his fin box on a couple rocks. I surfed and trained all day on Friday and Saturday was the competition. There were a bunch of policemen directing traffic and keeping the contest safe. The surf was small and mushy, but not too windy and super fun. In the end, I placed 1st in under 14 girls shortboard and 2nd in Open Women.

Last week, on Wednesday, our class went to Lahaina Yacht Club to go sailing all day. We are going again today! I have previously sailed there in a summer camp, but I had to re-learn a bunch of things. Once I got in the water, it was so much fun! All the yacht club members were helping us and teaching us about wind and sailing. I remembered almost everything and even won a race against James! After sailing, we had an amazing lunch from the Lahaina Yacht Club. It was pretty amazing! I am super excited to go today.
Yesterday, we went to Lahaina Sound to record the song "Where in the World Are the Whales" with Steve Grimes. The studio was so cool! Recording a song and seeing all the equipment was such an amazing experience!! Lynn Peterson helped Steve Grimes and us record the song! Thank you Steve Grimes and Lynn Peterson for the extraodinary experience!! This week, we were supposed to do a lesson with Kupuna Kaina. She was hospitalized on Tuesday night due to low blood pressure. They kept her overnight in the hospital and she couldn't come and teach us about Hawaiian Culture. Please keep her in your prayers!! She is an amazing woman with very much aloha and wisdom. We hope you get well soon, Kupuna Kaina!
This week, we had Kupuna Kaina come in and teach us about Hawaiian history. It completely changed my view of the Hawaiian culture and it was truly inspiring! Tomorrow, Steve Grimes is coming in to practice the Whale Song with us. We will record the song in a recording studio on September 11! My birthday!!
