A few weeks ago Krizhna and I had the idea of planning an extravagant birthday party for our teacher Ms Enriquez. We knew she wanted to go to O'o Farms so we made a plan for November 22. Then Krizhna had the idea of the riddles and gifts for the week leading up to the day of the Farm. The process was stressful but it was totally worth it when we got up to the farm and had a great time. Max's mom bought us glow sticks and necklaces and they were very entertaining because everybody started whipping each other with them. Dinner was amazing like always. We had pizza and s'mores. This time I slept much better because I got to sleep in the bed. It was very cold but surprisingly not as cold as last time. For breakfast we had eggs and bacon which was so delicious. We also had hot chocolate. After breakfast we cleaned up the area and played a game. After we got bored of the game we went to the swing and chatted. When it was time to leave I wasn't sad because I just knew that we would come back again.
Yesterday, we went to a Latin mass which was led by Cannon Moreau who is from France. I was late to school so I missed a little bit of the introduction but I was able to catch up by following along in the booklets that contained half Latin and half the English language. After a while I couldn't follow along in the booklet anymore because he talking too fast. I loved how the mass was done in a traditional way, as if we were participating in the mass 1600 years ago. It felt like I was going to mass with my mom in Europe. It felt like going to mass with Jesus as our leader.
On November 19th, students from St. Anthony's 6th grade class came to our school to learn about our revolutionized education and the WorldWide Voyage. My part in participating was explaining the peace flags. Summer and I drew an example on the board and I explained it with help from Chanel. Then we passed out some blank pieces of fabric and told them to draw what they think represents peace and to write a quote or message to cheer up the crew members when their feeling down. I wasn't surprised when they said they had fun on the tire swing. It's one of our best features on the playground. I can't wait for the Holy Nativity students to come to our school to experience what we do almost everyday.
On November 7th, when the rest of the class went on a learning journey to Oahu., Summer and I stayed back in 3rd grade. I was really disappointed because they told me they had a blast. I wish I had gone with them to experience the fun.Summer and I had a good time and we definitely bonded with each other. But I definitely missed bonding with the others. I hope next time I will be able to go. I love traveling with friends.
Today we had the most inspiring day ever. We visited the MACC and participated in the art exhibition "Taken by Wonder". I was surprised because when I first walked in the building there was a small old looking cottage and I thought we were going to watch a play. It was actually an art piece created by Wes Bruce. When we got to explore the cottage I was excited to see what was inside. I was astounded by the dimensions and levels of the cottage. It turned out to be bigger than it looked from outside. There were about four secret hideouts that were so cool. It is amazing how it only took one month to build the whole thing. I was disappointed that it would be taken down because I would want to live in there. After we were all out of the cottage we went to make our own dwellings. We sat in groups and got to work. When we finished our dwellings we connected them. Krizhna and I were together and our dwelling turned out to be a little playground with our inhabitant the snowman. I am going to go back with my mom before it closes because it has to be shared with her. I tried to explain the different hide outs to her but I couldn't find the right words. I told her that she would just have to see it herself. I can't wait to go inside the cottage and experience the wonder again.
I had such an amazing 5 days and I'm so sad that its over. It was very special that day because we weren't just sailing the courses but we sailed around the boats in the mooring. They said that we were the first class to be taken out past the reef. I was so excited but scared at the same time. I was scared because i thought we could run into sharks and I am terrified of sharks. The wind was light but I still moved pretty quickly. We raced a couple time using the boats as marks. I didn't win any of them but I didn't care because I was enjoying it too much. We had pizza for lunch. It tasted so amazing that it made my taste buds sing. After everybody was finished eating, we presented our burgees and said our statements of appreciation. They gave us awesome T-shirts with The Hawaiian islands and their logo on it. We didn't want to waste any time on land so we rushed and got our gear on to get back in the water. Since we proved to Curtis and the others that we were responsible, they let us be free to do what we want for the last hour we had left. Everyone pirated each others boats and capsized them. It was a blast. It was disappointing that it was our last day to sail but I was glad to be a part of it. I hope we can have a learning journey and visit our sailing ohana again. I have many stories to tell my friends and family in Europe. They will be envious.
Last week Thursday was our fourth sailing day. Ms. Enriquez was in Oahu presenting at Schools of the Future so Mr. Mason had to take us. We practiced some knot-tying and talked about the wind direction and what course we would be sailing. Then we got our life jackets on and grabbed a rudder and daggerboard. We all did our share in carrying the boats down. Finally we got in the water and rigged our boats. I was worried that there wouldn't be any wind because the flags weren't moving. It was interesting to watch Mr Mason sail because he would always tell us about Bernoulli's Principle. I expected him to be good at sailing but I was wrong. It was hilarious to see him capsize right as he started sailing. We raced a couple times but I wan't too interested in racing because I just wanted to sail and relax. The water was so clear and glassy that I wanted to purposely capsize. When it was time for lunch we went in and tied our boats to the buoys. We unhooked the mainsheet, took out the daggerboard, and lifted the rudder. Lunch was good and we even got brownies which were exquisite. We got to choose partners for the second half of sailing and Summer and I were together. We went fast and only capsized three times. Time flew by quickly then it was time to leave. I didn't want to go because I was having a blast. I was absent for the third sailing day but this one definitely made up for it. I can't wait to sail again next week. I am sad that it will be the last week we sail.
On Friday, October 18, the class went on a field trip to Honokowai Valley but Chanel, Summer, James, and I stayed back. Chanel and I stayed with the 5th graders. When we first walked into the class we got our seating arrangements settled and started our History Day concept map. Once we finished our concept maps, we made drafts of our burgees. Time flew by fast and it was already recess. At recess we played with our kindergarten buddies. Then we went to the library and ate ice cream. My ice cream flavor was Kona Coffee. At the library, Chanel and I were looking for books about advertisement for our History Day project. We ended up finding a book about fundraising so we looked through it. It gave us the idea to volunteer at the Humane Society. After an hour passed by, we walked back to school to eat lunch. During lunch recess, we played with our buddies and then went to 3rd grade with James to help grade paper for Ms. Beaulieu. After that we did our community service and swept the stage. We wanted to see our buddies again so we went to Ms. Coon and asked if we could hang out with them. She said we could so we went there at 1 :15 and came back at 2 :00. It was pretty cool to be there, not having to get sunburned and injured from the valley. After school Chanel and I watched a movie.
On September 27 and 28, our class went on a learning journey up to O'o farm. I had so much fun. I learned a lot. When we first got there we played tag. It was very hard to find everybody because they all had good hiding spots. After tag, the girls swept the yurt and organized the sleeping arrangements. When the yurt looked ready we went down to help with dinner. We picked fresh vegetables and herbs for the salad and lemons for the dressing. We also made pizza. On my pizza I had sausage, cheese, tomato sauce, and olive oil. It tasted like heaven. The funnest part of the day was tag the worst part was sleeping. I felt like a popsicle laying in a freezer. I kept tossing and turning all night. The roosters were yapping, my classmates were yapping. Not to mention I had slept on the floor with Krizhna because the boys took the bed. Anyway, I made it through the night and woke up at 6:15 for sunrise. We had a delicious breakfast and sat by the fire because it was freezing. We learned about coffee trees and the process of making the beans ready to grind. We even grew our own coffee trees. After that we learned about insects and how they affect the plants. We got into four groups and picked our category. I was with Chanel and our category was slugs and snails. There were four sections of the farm that we observed. Throughout all the sections we only found 6 snails and slugs which was really good news. I was sad when it was time to go but I had a great experience. I cant wait to go back in November for Ms. Enriquez's birthday.
Today at the Lahaina Yacht Club we had a terrific time. We all got to sail individually. When we got in the water, the waves were big and it was high tide. The wind was really strong but the direction of the wind was strange. When we got our boats rigged and ready to sail, we were supposed to sail the course but instead we rode the waves back and forth. That was really fun because we went really fast. After that we sailed the course. Some of us had Bics and some had Sabits. I love the Bics because I have more boat speed and it feels like I am flying. All the Bics raced today and I won first place in both of the races. I was really proud of myself. While sailing around the buoy A, I thought I saw a shark because I saw two fins. One fin was big and one was small. I got really scared because I am terrified of sharks. It turned out it was just a turtle and I felt relieved. The wind died down and I felt like we were sitting ducks. When it was time for lunch we went in and hooked our boats to the buoys, took our daggerboards out, lifted the rudder and unhooked the mainsheet. We had fried chicken and french fries for lunch. It was delicious especially when I dipped the french fries in ranch dressing. After lunch we were able to sail with partners and Summer and I were together. At this point the waves got bigger and the wind much stronger. Summer and I kept capsizing and the waves made it difficult to get back in the boat. Eventually we got back on course after everyone else overlapped us about four times. I didn't care because I was having too much fun. Time flew by fast and it was already time to go. It was a great day and I had so much fun. I cant wait until next week.
