On Wednesday December 12 the Sacred Hearts School 8th grade class went on a Learning Journey to Seabury Hall In upcountry Maui. We went their to learn about their high school program and their athletics program. The day started out with getting up at five o'clock in the morning to get to J.P.'s house by six where we took a one and a half hour long drive to get to the school by 7:30. Once we were there we were given our student to follow for the day. Brandon and I were assigned to the same person. The first class that he took us to was the English class. Their English class is completely different than ours, their teacher said that she doesn't care about spelling and grammar, she just wants her students to get their thoughts and ideas across without having to worry about anything else. After that we went to the Honors Geometry class where The teacher put on a trial about a math equation. I had no idea what anybody was talking about but they seemed very smart. After that everybody had a break with cookies and candy. then our shadow took us to his theater class where he let us climb around on the place where they hang the lights high above the stage. Then we had a amazing lunch with chicken rice and noodles. They even have their own soda fountain with juice. Then we went home with a full belly and happy with our trip to Seabury.
On Tuesday December 3rd, the seventh and eighth grade classes had a very special visitor. Our visitor was the producer of the movie The Hiding Place. His name was ,Bill Brown and he came into our class to talk about Corrie ten Boom and how much faith she had in God. One quote from the book and the movie, that I really liked then and I still like it today is a quote Betsy had said during their time at the concentration camp. "Thank God for the Fleas". This was said because when all the inmates were reading the Bible in their cell a Nazi officer walked by and saw them reading it but was to afraid to go in and punish them because of the massive amount of fleas. After that Bill went on to talk about his time filming with Corrie and about the movie premier. Bill browns visit really got me thinking about my faith in God because I probably would not be able to do something like that.
