Today, September 22, we encountered an interesting visitor. As I entered the waiting area after I got my flu shot, we met a nurse named Walle. He described his fascination in the medical field, how the purpose is to help others. He told us his life story: he was born with a deformed and deaf left ear. He told us about how he loved music, but was not able to hear anything in his left ear (and being a musician, I cannot believe how difficult that must be). Skipping forward, he told us that when he was finally 50 years old he got an implanted a metal device in his skull that corrected his deafness. His deformed ear was corrected by having a medical artist mold a new ear for him. As he was telling us about his new ear, he simply just pulled it off!! He had no left ear on his head. It was in his hand! As exciting as that was, he continued his story, explaining to us how modern technology can affect the lives of so many people. Throughout the whole day and maybe throughout the week, Nurse Walle's story will continue to fascinate me.
